The Appropriations Committee passed the bill 29-20, a party-line
vote, because of non-DOE policy riders.
Three amendments were discussed:
Rep. Lee amendment to strike the $65 million
funding for the low-yield warhead. She withdrew the amendment after
debate, Including Chairman Simpson agreeing that there wasn’t enough
information about the warhead and that there would be hearings on it.
Two other Democratic amendments were voted down.
For ANA, the bill is contrary to the weapons funding cuts we support,
has lots of money for SMRs and Yucca Mountain, which we oppose. Defense
Environmental cleanup is $5.7 billion, which is $129 million more than
the Budget Request, but $229 million less than this year, so that’s not
enough to meet cleanup agreements. The bill includes $0 for consolidated
spent fuel storage, so that’s the small “victory.”

The final report will have slightly different language, but no changes
in the dollars.
