Peace and non-violence advocates from Colorado Springs witnessed to the connection between the Pentagon and Space research and development at the 35th Space Symposium held at the Broadmoor Hotel. The Pentagon and its now proposed new military wing (US Space Command to be separate from its current location within the Air Force) uses Space as “The High Frontier” to be dominated as the US platform for carrying out war including, of course, nuclear warfare. It is also seeking a 30 year commitment of $1.7Trillion to create new more “useable” nuclear weapons.
Handouts challenged Degrasse Tyson’s thesis that it is necessary to accept this deep military connection in order to keep funding to conduct the more useful and interesting work of Space “Exploration”. It noted that Google had made a conscientious decision to disconnect from development of Pentagon software for its Space work. It encouraged people to make similar examination of their conscience
