Rooted in the false claim (see attached Pit Aging Studies needed) that the current plutonium cores of the current nuclear weapons stockpile are in danger of deterioration, the DOE/NNSA is rebuilding US nuclear weapons production capability. The cost? –$50 billion over 30 years just for the new pits. This does not include the expenditures being approved for the development of new (“more useable”) versions and delivery systems, with a price tag predicted at least $1 Trillion. The TPNW (Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons) makes these actions illegal and the ICJ (International Court of Justice) suggests it would be a crime against humanity. President Eisenhower said such expenditures are a robbery from the poor. Wouldn’t it be far better to use these resources — $50 billion just for the new pit facilities — to address the real threat of Climate disaster?
